A man who raped a 75-year-old woman will spend up to 50 years in prison for the horrifying assault that severely traumatized the elderly victim.

Eric Johnson, 52, was handed the sentence Monday in a courtroom in Battle Creek, Michigan, which heard emotional testimony from the unnamed victim.

In her statement, she testified that Johnson woke her up by jumping on her bed in January 2018. She said she told him to leave, but Johnson bound her with tape and began to threaten her.

‘He said, “I am going to do this one way or the other…It is either going to be the nice way or the hard way,’ she said, adding ‘I knew he was going to rape me.’

She continued: ‘He taped my hands, and I felt helpless and in a lot of pain. He even tried to kiss me and that was the thing that I sometimes remember and it was just awful to think that he would do that to me,’ the Battle Creek Enquirer reported.

Johnson reportedly told the woman that he would leave her alone if she did not call the cops, but she dialed 911 as soon as he left.

Officers found him hours later in his home. Police said he had been drinking.

In court, the victim said the attack has left her afraid to leave her house. She said she is undergoing counselling and is now distrustful of all men.

In her statement, she said she was still terrified of Johnson, and said: :’But it is important that he knows I made it through and he is the one going to jail for it. It is important to know that he can’t do this to someone else.’

Upon his arrest, Johnson told police that he had been having a casual sexual relationship with the woman, claiming she called police and accused him of rape after his dog peed on her yard.

However, in court, he said: ‘I apologize for any pain and suffering I caused by my actions. I am very sorry.’

Authorities say Johnson befriended the woman before the attack. Calhoun County Circuit Court Judge John Hallacy hit out at Johnson in court for exploiting that friendship.

Hallacy said: ‘What you did in this case was reprehensible, unforgivable, at least in my mind. You took one of the innocents in our society and that is people who are older, and, as I get older, I understand the need to protect them more. You exploited it for whatever perverted pleasure you were looking for.’

Johnson was arrested on multiple charges of sexual assault, but the terms his plea agreement led to all but one of those charges being dropped.

He was sentenced to 17 years and five months to 50 years in prison.
